Journal of BioNano-Aquatic Science and Technology (JBAST) is a peer-reviewed and open-access biannually (April and October) journal published by Perhimpunan Inovasi Teknologi Lingkungan Akuatik (PITLA). JBAST aims to provide a scientific platform for disseminating cutting-edge research in aquatic science and technology, with an emphasis on engineering-based approaches, including biotechnology, advanced materials, nanotechnology, systems engineering, and intelligent monitoring technologies for sustainable aquatic environments and resource management. JBAST accepts only manuscripts written in full English and considers only original manuscripts within the scope of fisheries and marine science that have not been published elsewhere.
The journal encourages the publication of research that supports sustainable aquatic management and monitoring, advances technology-based utilization of aquatic resources, and develops innovative materials and systems based on biological and nano-enabled approaches for aquaculture, aquatic organism health, and water remediation.
The journal emphasizes the integration of life sciences, engineering, nanotechnology, and data-driven monitoring systems to create innovative solutions that maintain aquatic ecosystem balance and support sustainable food security. As the official journal of the Perhimpunan Inovasi Teknologi Lingkungan Akuatik (PITLA – Association for Innovation in Aquatic Environmental Technology), JBAST serves as a center of excellence for innovation and scientific collaboration among researchers and practitioners, contributing directly to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2, SDG 6, SDG 9, SDG 12, SDG 13, and SDG 14.
The journal focuses on interdisciplinary research integrating biosynthesis, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and advanced materials for aquatic applications. JBAST emphasizes innovations in aquatic environmental and systems engineering—including marine and freshwater infrastructure, intelligent monitoring technologies (sensors, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI)), and automation—to develop sustainable solutions for aquatic environments, organism health, and production systems. Additionally, the journal addresses environmental safety, ecotoxicology, and the socio-economic assessment of bio–nano innovations in the aquatic sector.
The Journal of BioNano-Aquatic Science and Technology (JBAST) publishes original research, reviews, and short communications on the biosynthesis and engineering of advanced materials, biotechnology, and aquatic environmental and systems engineering. The journal’s scope encompasses:
Biosynthesis and Engineering of Advanced Materials for water treatment, remediation, and specific aquatic applications (including structural components in freshwater and marine environments).
Innovations in Aquatic Systems Engineering, including automation, robotics, marine and freshwater infrastructure, as well as intelligent monitoring technologies (sensors, IoT, and AI) specifically designed for aquatic environments.
Biotechnology and biological materials for aquatic organism health.
Technology-based sustainable aquaculture and aquatic food production systems.
Environmental safety, ecotoxicology, and risk and socio-economic assessment of bio–nano innovations in aquatic environmental management.
